Hueytown, AL — U.S. congressional candidate Case Dixon broke his hand this past week after being attacked by a dog while going door-to-door meeting voters in Alabama’s 6th District.
While out knocking doors, Dixon approached a home where the homeowner appeared friendly and did not warn him of any danger. Moments later, a large dog charged from the garage and lunged at him. Dixon was forced to defend himself, striking the dog in the head to stop the attack — resulting in a broken hand.
“I didn’t go looking for a fight, but I wasn’t going to stand there and get mauled either,” Dixon said. “I had to defend myself.”
Despite the injury, Dixon says he isn’t slowing down.
“Life happens,” Dixon added. “At first, the doctors were thinking I may need surgery to put pins in my hand, so I’m glad that’s no longer on the table. A broken hand isn’t going to slow me down.”
The campaign confirmed Dixon will be in a splint over the next several weeks but will continue his schedule, including door knocking and upcoming events.
“We’re not stopping,” Dixon said.
