Roe v. Wade is gone, but the killing hasn’t stopped. As a believer in Christ, father of two, constitutional conservative, and unapologetic defender of life, I can tell you our fight is just beginning.
The Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling was a monumental victory for life, but it didn’t end abortion, it just sent the decision back to the states. While Alabama chooses life, too many other states choose death, doubling down on abortion at any stage of pregnancy, treating life like it’s negotiable, disposable, or dependent on convenience.
Abortion is murder in all cases. There are no exceptions.
Here in Alabama, our laws reflect who we are. We know life begins at conception and that every unborn child deserves protection. That’s not just faith; it’s fact. Science tells us that the moment of fertilization marks the creation of a new and unique human being. Every strand of that child’s DNA, and every detail that makes them who they are, is present from day one.
That life is not potential. It’s real. And to end the life of a child is not “healthcare.” It’s the destruction of an innocent human being.
The Constitution is clear: no person shall be deprived of life or liberty without due process of law. Those words don’t come with an age limit or an exception clause. The unborn are human beings; to take their lives without due process violates the 14th Amendment. The federal government has a duty to guarantee equal protection for every American – born and unborn.
The pro-life movement cannot stop at the state level. It’s time to finish what we started.
The argument that abortion should be left to the states ignores the heart of the matter. The Constitution doesn’t allow states to strip away the rights of an entire class of people. Will America protect the most vulnerable, or will we continue to look the other way while innocent lives are slain?
Across the country, abortion should be banned because human life begins at conception. Full stop.
Now, I understand difficult cases can be hard for some to reconcile. Rape and incest are horrific, evil acts. The criminals who commit them deserve the harshest punishment imaginable. And women who suffer through those traumas deserve compassion, counseling, and every kind of help available. But if a child is conceived in that tragedy, that child bears no guilt. Taking their life doesn’t bring justice – it compounds the injustice.
The lives of those who were conceived in rape or abuse are no less valuable than yours or mine. If we truly believe all life is sacred, we can’t make exceptions based on circumstance.
And when a mother’s life is in danger, our obligation is to work to save both lives. That may mean delivering the child early through C-section, induced labor, or other emergency procedures. However, we must always fight for that baby’s survival once born, even if the odds are stacked against them. When you fight for the life of a preterm child, no matter what science says is possible, that’s not abortion. The goal must always be to preserve life, not end it.
Science continues to confirm what pro-life advocates have said for decades. Babies are surviving at 24 weeks, 22 weeks, and even earlier. Every time a premature baby survives birth at an earlier gestational age, it exposes the lie that there’s any threshold when life begins other than at conception.
Our country cannot claim to stand for liberty while denying life to the most defenseless. America was founded on the belief that our rights come from God, not government. When we decide who counts as human, we play God ourselves. History shows that never ends well.
Alabama has set the standard for defending life, refusing to bow to cultural pressure, showing the courage to act on conviction. But we need leaders willing to take this fight nationwide. It’s time to take these values to Washington and stand up for the unborn no matter what.
Overturning Roe v. Wade was a great start, but the real fight for life is just beginning.
