Republican congressional candidate Case Dixon says he is pressing forward on the campaign trail after suffering a broken hand during a dog attack while knocking doors in Hoover.
Dixon, who is challenging incumbent Gary Palmer in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District, was going door-to-door meeting voters when the incident occurred. According to his campaign, Dixon approached a home where the homeowner appeared welcoming and gave no warning of any danger.
Moments later, a large dog ran from the garage and lunged at him.
“I didn’t go looking for a fight, but I wasn’t going to stand there and get mauled either,” Dixon said. “I had to defend myself.”
Dixon struck the dog in the head to stop the attack, breaking his hand in the process.
Despite the injury, he said he has no plans to step away from the campaign.
